Every year, the Festival Finale opens with the annual Float Parade, where local community groups and businesses form a spectacular procession down Melville Bay Road that the whole community turns out to see.
The float parade consists of two main parts:
- Float Competition: Community groups and businesses build floats (usually on back on flat-bed trucks or utes) that celebrate and promote their organisation. Prizes are awarded for the best decorated floats.
- Decorated Bike Competition: Children from the region decorate their bikes and ride in the float parade (accompanied by a responsible adult). Prizes are awarded for the best decorated bikes.
The theme for this year’s float parade is 40 Years of Nhulunbuy, so groups and individuals entering the float parade are encouraged to create a float which celebrates the history of our community. Entry is free – groups/individuals simply need to register via the form below.
